History
In 1989, a group of students in a "Leadership Columbia" class toured the Columbia Metropolitan Airport. On the way back to the city, they were dismayed at the amount of litter on the roadways. Knowing that representatives from many potential businesses arrived at the airport and traveled the same roads, they decided to address the problem and Keep the Midlands Beautiful was born.
Mission
The mission of Keep the Midlands Beautiful is to educate, inspire and empower citizens to improve the places where they live, work and play through litter prevention, recycling, and beautification efforts.
We are a small, local, nonprofit organization making a big difference with YOUR help!
We coordinate with approximately 310 groups through our Adopt-A-Highway, Adopt-A-Street, and Adopt-A-Waterway programs who remove hundreds of thousands of pounds of litter from the Midlands roads and waterways!
