What Can I Do to Prevent Litter?
Set an example for others, especially for children, by not littering.
Carry a litter bag in your car.
Make sure trash cans have lids than can be securely fastened. If you have curbside trash collection, don’t overfill your cans or put out loose trash in boxes.
Place heavier items on top of newspapers in your recycling bin.
If you own a business, check dumpsters daily to see that top and side doors are closed.
Report areas where people have illegally dumped garbage and debris to your local department of transportation or public works office.
Volunteer to help organize a cleanup.
When you have a cookout or special event, be sure you have plenty of trash cans available
